ACRP Secretary-General Visits Rissho Kosei-kai
On April 11, Dr. Kim Sunggon, Secretary-General of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP), visited Rissho Kosei-kai headquarters in Tokyo and conferred with President Nichiko Niwano in the Horin-kaku Guest Hall. Rev. Kim Teasung, assistant secretary-general of the ACRP; Rev. Takeshi Kawabata, director of the General Affairs Bureau of Rissho Kosei-kai; and Rev. Tomokazu Hatakeyama, under-secretary-general of the Japanese Committee of the World Conference of Religions for Peace (Religions for Peace Japan), were also present.
At the beginning of the dialogue, Dr. Kim expressed thanks for Rissho Kosei-kai's cooperation and assistance with the convening of the Seventh Assembly of the ACRP, held in Manila in October. Dr. Kim was reelected secretary-general of the ACRP during the Manila Assembly. He vowed to do his best in the post and asked for Rissho Kosei-kai's continued cooperation with the ACRP. President Niwano expressed appreciation for Dr. Kim's leadership in contributing to the success of the Manila Assembly. As president of Rissho Kosei-kai and of Religions for Peace Japan, Rev. Niwano pledged further cooperation for ACRP activities. Dr. Kim then outlined ACRP's current plans, including one for peace education through interreligious cooperation. As a leader of Won Buddhism in South Korea, Dr. Kim expressed a desire to promote cooperation between Won Buddhism and Rissho Kosei-kai.
