Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace Announces Grant Recipients for Fiscal 2008
In March the executive committee of the Rissho Kosei-kai Donate-a-Meal Fund for Peace announced the grant recipients for fiscal 2008. A total of 428,042,619 Japanese yen was donated by Rissho Kosei-kai members as well as Japanese well-wishers through the Donate-a-Meal Movement.
The fund for peace supported various peace activities to address social problems in Japan and overseas. The fund awarded grants in nine categories, including Poverty Reduction, Education, and Refugee Assistance.
For Poverty Reduction, the fund allocated 220,131,044 yen to four programs, including the Campaign for Sharing Blankets with People in Africa for the cost of shipping, and the South Asia Program conducted by the Niwano Peace Foundation.
For Education, the fund donated 51,695,397 yen to five projects, including scholarships for students from poor families in Bataan Province, the Philippines, and training for staff members of Japanese nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).
For Refugee Assistance, the fund gave 77,528,150 yen to five programs, including the Little Bags of Dreams Campaign and JEN's humanitarian emergency aid.
For the Environment, the fund allocated 11 million yen to two projects, including a joint project by Rissho Kosei-kai and the Japan International Volunteer Center.
For Emergency Aid, the fund donated 15 million yen to aid victims of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar last May and the Iwate-Miyagi Inland Earthquake last June.
