RKINA Holds Open Seminar on the Lotus Sutra

RKINA Holds the Lotus Sutra Seminar On October 31 and November 1, Rissho Kosei-kai International of North America (RKINA) held a two-day open seminar on the Lotus Sutra at the University of California, Irvine, and at the RKINA center. Dr. Brook Ziporyn, an associate professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, was invited to lecture. Some forty people interested in Buddhism took part, including Rissho Kosei-kai members and members of the public.

In October 2008 RKINA held a symposium at UC Irvine to commemorate the publication of the English translation of Cultivating the Buddhist Heart by President Nichiko Niwano. RKINA held this year's open seminar to acquaint more people with the teachings of the Lotus Sutra.

Dr. Ziporyn lectured on such key concepts of the Lotus Sutra as the One Buddha Vehicle, the Revelation of the [Eternal] Life of the Tathagata, and Three Thousand Realms in One Mind. His lectures were followed by question-and-answer sessions and active exchanges of opinions with the participants.
