Japanese Religious Committee for World Federalist Movement Holds 31st National Conference
The Japanese Religious Committee for the World Federalist Movement held its 31st annual national conference November 28 at Kawasaki Daishi Heikenji temple in Kanagawa Prefecture. Some 180 representatives from member organizations took part. Rissho Kosei-kai was represented by Rev. Takeshi Kawabata, director of the General Affairs Bureau, and Rev. Keitaro Suzuki, minister of the Kawasaki Dharma Center.
After praying for world peace in the temple's main hall, the participants moved to the lecture hall for the opening ceremony, chaired by Rev. Tsunekiyo Tanaka, president of the committee as well as chief priest of Iwashimizu Hachiman shrine in Kyoto. The ceremony included the showing of the documentary Gaia Symphony, about the beauties of nature. After the screening, the film's director, Mr. Jin Tatsumura, and Professor Emeritus Akira Miyawaki of Yokohama National University, discussed the role of religious faith in helping preserve the natural environment.
At the closing ceremony, the participants adopted a statement urging greater efforts for world peace, including the abolition of nuclear weapons and better protection of the earth's environment.
