|The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) held the second annual advisory forum for its Board of Directors during February 6-7 at KAICIID's headquarters in Vienna. Rissho Kosei-kai's president-designate, Rev. Kosho Niwano, attended the meeting as a KAICIID director. The first advisory forum was last April.
The forum was attended by 40 people, including KAICIID directors and other participants, who were leaders of religious organizations and communities affiliated with Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, and Judaism.
The forums' goal is to set priorities and objectives, as well as action plans, while ensuring coordination among KACIID's ongoing peace programs in Central Africa, Nigeria, Iraq, Syria, and Myanmar.
In his opening address, KAICIID's secretary general, Faisal Abdulrahman bin Muaammar, described this year's forum as a milestone in laying the foundation for KAICIID's development in the coming decades. He said that in a world afflicted by conflict and violence and challenged by xenophobic trends, it is necessary to promote interreligious cooperation and persuade all people to respect one another's religious and cultural traditions through dialogue.
During the two-day forum the participants divided into four working groups to discuss "Interreligious Dialogue Training," "Governance and Common Citizenship," "Reconciliation," and "Capacity Building."
The advisory forums are consultative bodies representing more than 20 countries. The forums support KAICIID activities and give advice on its peace programs.
