Directors of Religions for Peace Japan Gather at Tokyo's Tendai Buddhist Temple

June 2017

Religions for Peace Japan held a meeting of its Board of Directors on June 9 at Rinnoden, a hall attached to Kan'eiji, one of the major temples of the Tendai Buddhist Denomination in Tokyo. Nineteen directors took part. Rissho Kosei-kai was represented by Rev. Kosho Niwano, the organization's president-designate, and Rev. Takeshi Kawabata, chair of its Board of Trustees.

At the beginning of the meeting, the board members offered a prayer for peace. Ven. Gijun Sugitani, chair of Religions for Peace Japan and a supreme advisor to the Tendai Buddhist Denomination, then delivered greetings.

The board of directors approved reports on projects from fiscal 2016 (April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2017) and personnel transfers. The board also heard a report from the executive committee of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP), which convened its meeting on May 20-21 in Beijing. The ACRP report noted the personnel transfer of its senior officer and included planning for the next general assembly.

Rev. Nobuhiro M. Nemoto, an executive specialist of Rissho Kosei-kai, became ACRP secretary-general. He takes over from Rev. Yoshitaka T. Hatakeyama, who had served in the position since August 2014. The executive committee also confirmed that the next ACRP general assembly will be held in October 2020 in Tokyo.
