Rissho Kosei-kai International Leaders Training Seminar Held in Tokyo and Suganuma

July 2017

Rissho Kosei-kai International held a two-week Leaders Training Seminar July 10-22 at the Tokyo headquarters, and the Founder's birthplace in Suganuma, Niigata Prefecture. The seminar included several sessions to help deepen overseas leaders' understanding of Buddhism, the scripture of Lotus Sutra and Rissho Kosei-kai activities in order to promote further dissemination by overseas Dharma centers. Overseas leaders also had the opportunity to observe and train in daily practices of the faith at local Japanese Dharma centers, including Dharma dissemination, and connect with the Founder at his birthplace in Suganuma, Niigata Prefecture.

This year, 15 leaders from the Bangladesh, New York, Oklahoma, Tainan, Sri Lanka, Central Delhi and Ulaanbaatar Dharma centers took part in the seminar. The leaders shared and deepened their understanding of the Dharma through interactions with their fellow sangha leaders.

For the first two days, the participants heard lectures on the history of Rissho Kosei-kai, the scripture of each chapter of the Threefold Lotus Sutra, and the peace activities of Rissho Kosei-kai, learning about Rissho Kosei-kai's duty to engage in dialogue with people from all walks of life to build a peaceful society.

On July 14 the seminar moved to Suganuma for three days and two nights, where the leaders could connect with the Founder spiritually and physically by visiting his birthplace. The leaders next went to local Dharma centers for dissemination training, which included participation in hoza circles and daily activities such as tedori, michibiki, and ritual observance in order to deepen their knowledge of various cultural aspects of Dharma dissemination.

Rissho Kosei-kai International's leader training seminars aim to improve knowledge of Rissho Kosei-kai and its interpretation of Buddhist teachings. The seminars help overseas leaders with Dharma dissemination not only in their own countries but worldwide, to help liberate people from their sufferings and build world peace. Each leader made a firm vow to spread the Dharma to as many people as possible and devotedly support the happiness of their sangha members upon returning to their home countries.
