Rev. Hirose Encounters Members in Erdenet, Ulaanbaatar

On February 3, in midwinter temperatures of minus 25 degrees Celsius, recently appointed Deputy Director of Rissho Kosei-kai International Rev. Ikuyo Hirose visited the Erdenet Center branch of RKK’s Ulaanbaatar Chapter in Mongolia. The center is located 400 km away from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, which takes about 12 hours by night train. Area Leader Ms. Dalaikhuu Choijamts and 40 sangha members warmheartedly welcomed Rev. Hirose. After a sutra recitation, Rev. Hirose gave the members guidance on the President’s New Year’s Message, and a Dharma talk and hoza were held.

In her guidance, Rev. Hirose talked about a true and interdependent faith and jitomyo and hotomyo; make yourself the light and make the Dharma your light. She also told the members that it is important to first make efforts on their own before asking their predecessors or the Area Leader to guide them for a better life.

During the hoza, many members spontaneously revealed their gratitude and talked about their daily sufferings. A female member talked about her youngest daughter, who was diagnosed with a developmental disorder at age 20. She said, “I have visited many temples and Christian churches to cure my daughter, but I ended up not finding what I was looking for. However, when I encountered Rissho Kosei-kai, I became a member because I was truly impressed by the teachings. Thanks to these great teachings, I am no longer anxious about my daughter, even though she is still not cured.”

Following the hoza, members of the children’s group performed a traditional Mongolian dance.
The 230 members of the sangha practice at the center, which celebrated the 12th anniversary of its construction. Under the guidance of the Chapter Head and the Area Leader, the members have been sharing joy and sufferings, and walking the path of the Buddha Way together.
