Director Saito Meets Sakhalin Members for the First Time

February 2018

Rev. Koichi Saito, who was appointed as a new Director of Rissho Kosei-kai International last December, visited the RKK center on Sakhalin Island (previously known as Karafuto) from February 9–13.

On February 10, the monthly memorial day for the Cofounder, Rev. Saito led a sutra recitation, then gave a greeting address and provided guidance to the members on the Basic Concepts of Rissho Kosei-kai and the President’s New Year’s Message.

For the guidance on the Basic Concepts, he advised, “If you should perceive yourself as imperfect, it is also absolutely all right. You should take a new step forward with courage, like the Founder and the Cofounder did, encounter new people beyond your own borders, and make people feel happy. You also should ask people to guide you when you have sufferings, and take on new challenges again.” For the New Year’s message, he said, “This year, let us practice together with a mind to cherishing creation and developing people, and become a person who saves others from sufferings.

In hoza, a group leader revealed that she feels it is difficult to guide people to the faith even though she deeply hopes people will become happy. Rev. Saito assured her, “If you feel the difficulty, it proves that you make many efforts. You suffer from difficulty because you address the matter so diligently. It is very wonderful.” Another member said that he practices the teachings in the workplace. Other members were able to confirm that they are making efforts to disseminate the Dharma.

An annual meeting and an interview with Rev. Saito were also conducted, as well as a sutra recitation at a member’s house. The members were greatly thankful for these events.

Fifteen members from the Sakhalin Center will visit Rissho Kosei-kai Headquarters on the occasion of 80th anniversary of its founding in March.

Rissho Kosei-kai International held a two-week Leaders Training Seminar July 6-18 in Tokyo and the Founder's birthplace, in Suganuma, Niigata Prefecture.
