Dharma Dissemination Leaders Training Program in Bangkok

March 2018

Rissho Kosei-kai International of South Asia (RKISA) held a Dharma Dissemination Leaders Training Program in Bangkok from March 23 to 25. Thirty-five leaders from various regions of South Asia participated in the program, which intensively focused on studying and hoza practice. Hoza is said to be the lifeblood of Rissho Kosei-kai, and it is essential for local leaders to organize fruitful hoza for dharma dissemination.

The program consisted of lectures, case studies and hoza. The program began with Rev. Mitsuyuki Aritomi, minister of Rissho Kosei-kai of Bangladesh, giving a keynote address on hoza and musubi, the Dharma connection between personal experiences and the teachings as referenced to the Founder's teachings. In the case studies, participants tried to do musubi individually in response to each case. After the minister revealed his musubi, the participants could see the differences between their own musubi and the minister's, and share their impressions. Following the case studies, Rev. Masatoshi Shimamura (RKISA) and Rev. Mizutani (South Asia Division and Bangkok) clarified some viewpoints for the minister's musubi.

What was the key to doing musubi? The participants tended to do musubi to solve sufferings. On the other hand, the ministers saw things as they were with Buddha's wisdom, not prejudice. Through this program, participants came to recognize that sufferings are a gift for people to be awakened in Buddha's view. They also have acknowledged this with reference to their personal experience.

The participants therefore greatly developed their view on sufferings and musubi, and they also pledged further practice to be good leaders in order to spread the dharma in South Asia.
