Local Gohonzon Bestowal Ceremony Held in Oklahoma

June 2018

A Local Gohonzon Bestowal Ceremony was held for North American members at the Oklahoma Dharma Center, on June 3. It was the first time in five years that the bestowal ceremony had been held the United States. Members of 25 households, who visited from San Francisco, Vancouver in Canada, San Antonio, Ohio, and several locations in Oklahoma, received Gohonzon, our focus of devotion and eternal Buddha Shakyamuni.

Those 25 recipients have been practicing the Buddha way in their life and, through receiving a statue of the Buddha, were grateful and thankful, feeling great joy. Each recipient used the occasion to make a vow to spread the teaching of the Dharma to as many people as possible.

After the ceremony's sutra recitation, members Eric Russell and Laura Barrera each presented their "Word of Appreciation" as a representative of all the recipients. They commented that they were truly grateful for the wonderful opportunity to receive Gohonzon and that the teaching of the Buddha has totally changed their lives. They also noted that greatest gift we have to share with others is our buddha-nature, and vowed to take refuge in the Buddha, and faithfully uphold and practice the bodhisattva way." They also introduced their personal experiences with hardship and difficulties, and how they gradually overcame them thanks to the Sangha members' loving kindness and warmhearted, continuing care.

Rev. Koichi Saito, Director of Rissho Kosei-kai International, gave an inspiring Dharma guidance on behalf of the Organization's executive directors, expressing his most cordial congratulations to all the recipients, and encouraging them to strive: "It is just your second birth today as well as your new departure! Let us get further promotion to disseminate the truth of the Dharma, and to devote yourself to people in your family, community or society to make the world a better place together."

The ceremony came to a close with many joyful tears, big smiles, and wholehearted gratitude in a peaceful atmosphere warmed by the gentleness of their many other Dharma friends' eyes and the generous hospitalities of Sangha members of Oklahoma Dharma Center.
