Rissho Kosei-kai of Sri Lanka Holds 2018 Youth Seminar

June 2018

Eighteen youth group members of Rissho Kosei-kai of Sri Lanka participated in a youth seminar from June 15 to 17 in Baddegama, Sri Lanka. As this year's seminar was held at the house of a member's relative, youth group leaders voluntarily cleaned the house, cut the grass in the yard, and prepared lights and a supply of water before the seminar.

The seminar had two objectives: To provide the participants basic information about Rissho Kosei-kai and to discuss visions of how to make life happy and worthwhile. The participants learned about Rissho Kosei-kai in general, including its history and activities, using the booklet Welcome to Rissho Kosei-kai. They also learned basic Buddhist concepts, including the Three Seals of the Dharma, the Law of Dependent Origination, the Eightfold Path, and the Six Perfections.

At the end of the seminar, the participants talked about their future hopes. Some expressed their aspirations, while others spoke about concrete practices to improve their current situation. One participant commented that the seminar had shown him the importance of believing and revering the buddha-nature within himself and in others. Another said that she had learned how she could make her dream a reality and that she hoped to learn more about the Lotus Sutra and the practice of the teachings.

Rev. Yoshihisa Yamamoto, minister of Rissho Kosei-kai of Sri Lanka, addressed the participants, noting his desire for them to be aware of their own responsibility for changing their country for the better. He called on the participants to consider and put into practice what they can do for their country as religious youth without criticizing others. The participants expressed their eagerness to practice what they had studied in the seminar.
